Of all The Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor would rank as my least favorite. Not a knock against Chris Hemsworth because he’s certainly brought a lot to the role but when it comes to Thor, I’ve had nothing but apathy for that character, whether it be in the comics or in the movies.

So when the teaser trailer to Thor: Ragnarok hit the internet today, I saw it more out of duty than actual interest. My god, did this trailer hit it out of the park. This is honestly the first time I’ve ever been interested in seeing a Thor movie in theaters. We didn’t get anything more than a taste of what’s to come this November but whatever Marvel is doing with their movies of late, they need to keep it up because things just keep getting better.

First off, while we barely see her in the trailer, Cate Blanchett as Hela was amazing. Cate has always been able to show a whole range of emotions in her face which, having taken theater in college, I know is a very difficult thing to do. Yet the actors that can pull this off make their roles offer so much more than just what is on the script page. Her amazing ability as an actor is even showcased in a movie like Hot Fuzz where she had a cameo and had a surgical mask on her face the entire scene. We only saw her eyesyet the emotion she was able to portray gave her character depth.

Who knows if the song will be in the final movie but Immigrant Song from Led Zeppelin being used for the trailer was spot on perfect. Led Zeppelin’s music often referenced the sword and sorcery elements from similar stories like The Lord of the Rings from JRR Tolkien. Adding one of the most iconic rock and roll songs ever made in a movie about Thor was just as much a perfect fit as when they added Iron Man from Black Sabbath to the original trailer for Iron Man. It seems like so perfect a fit that you think it’s too obvious yet when you see and hear it together, it’s just works.
