‘Female John Wick’ Movie In The Works From Taken Director

A couple years ago, John Wick surprised audiences when it hit theaters. This was a film that had its trailer released a mere month before its theatrical debut. This would normally spell bad news, but that wasn’t the case for John Wick. Instead, audiences were treated to a lean, mean action flick with just enough plot and story keep things going, but not too much that it slowed down the pacing.

Of course, with the film and its sequel doing so well, it was only a matter of time before we’d get more similar films. This latest “copycat” (I put it in quotations because this is not necessarily a bad thing) comes from Taken director Pierre Morel, and is called Peppermint.

THR describes the film as:

“Peppermint is a revenge story centering on a young mother who finds herself with nothing to lose, and is now going to take from her rivals the very life they stole from her.”

The script for the film was penned by London Has Fallen scribe Chad St. John, and Lakeshore Entertainment has paid “low-to-mid seven figures” for the film, and is fast-tracking it so that it can get in front of the cameras by this fall. The film itself is being called a “female John Wick,” for obvious reasons.

While it’d be easy to scoff at this due to Hollywood’s tendency to reboot existing franchises with woman, but the reality is this is NOT a reboot, but just an action flick with a female lead. This is something I think anybody can get behind, and given the director’s experience in the genre — not to mention his camerawork on films like The Transporter — we think this idea is in great hands.
