The ending of Season 2 of Supergirl was a bittersweet affair. Yes, Earth was safe from the invasion of the Daxamites, but not without a cost. In order to ward off the alien masses, they had to use a device that would make the planet uninhabitable by the race. This meant that Mon-El would not be able to stick around on Earth, despite his getting friendly with Supergirl.
As such, we’re starting this season off on a pretty clean slate, villain-wise, but it based on what we know from the synopsis, Supergirl is still recovering from the loss of Mon-El. As such, she seems to be throwing herself into her Supergirl duties full-force.
This is reflected in the brand new trailer, with Supergirl being “just about everywhere” in National City. While Supergirl has never really been a dark show, the start of this season may have Kara in the darkest headspace she’s ever been in. Very little was revealed in the actual trailer, but the struggle seems to be real, and as indicated in the footage, Supergirl is undergoing a “hero’s journey” in this season. We’re very much interested to see what that hero’s journey entails, and what sacrifices she’ll need to make along the way.
Check out the synopsis for the Season 3 premiere episode below:
“DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF YOU — Kara (Melissa Benoist) deals with the loss of Mon-El (Chris Wood) by focusing all her energy on being Supergirl and the mysterious new threat against National City. Alex (Chyler Leigh) confesses a secret to Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) about their impending nuptials. A citizen of National City has a mysterious connection to Kara, and Lena (Katie McGrath) makes a bold move. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Robert Rovner and Caitlin Parrish.”
