Earlier this week, Gibson’s one-sided feud with Fast & Furious co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seemed to hit a fever pitch, with Gibson pretty much delivering an ultimatum via social media. The ultimatum was simple: if Dwayne Johnson was in Fast & Furious 9, then Tyrese Gibson would be out.
It’s also worth noting that Gibson is going through a custody battle for his daughter, and while his posts sort of do reflect that very stressful process, with random mentions of his daughter, it’s not very clear what she has to do with his beef with Johnson. Regardless, now it seems like Gibson may be singing a different tune.
He took to Instagram once again to post the following:
“Want you guys to know ! I had a real Heart to Heart with one of Dewayne’s associates and this will be my last post about him…….. ! I repeat my last…. ! I respect the associate who called.. My story will never change ! I was never DJ’s Co-Star… I’m Shayla’s Father first…. Justin Lin is back in the driver seat that’s exciting cause it going to feel like the true #FastFamily all over again….. When we see Justin we see Paul…..”
So in this post, we’re getting a couple of mixed messages. It seems like the stay may be willing to let bygones be bygones, but then he went on to say “My story will never change! I was never DJ’s Co-Star.” Not really sure what that means since he definitely was DJ’s co-star, and the post seems to reflect that he’s not really apologizing so much as conceding.
Of course, if this is the case, the next question is whether or not Universal will actually want him to continue forward as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise? Do they want someone who is so prone to incendiary behavior? We’d be surprised if he was actually back, no matter what he says.
Fast & Furious 9 is set to hit theaters in 2020.
