Stranger Things 2 hit Netflix a couple weekends back, and like its first season, it received high praise from both fans and critics. With the exception of one polarizing episode, most seemed to agree that the season managed to recapture what made the original great and escalate it to a whole new level.
There’s one other person who the filmmakers impressed, and that’s author Stephen King, as the writer revealed via a tweet:
STRANGER THINGS 2: Ladies and gentlemen, that's how you do it: no bullshit, balls to the wall entertainment. Straight up.
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) November 9, 2017
Of course, this is pretty great praise, not only because King is a great writer, but also because his work is an obvious influence on the series as a whole.
From episode one of Stranger Things, it become clear that it was some sort of love child between the books of Stephen King and the early films of Steven Spielberg. As such, to receive such high praise from such an influence is quite the big deal.
As stated above, this isn’t just idle praise. While it’d be easy for the Duffer Brothers to rest on the laurels on the first season, they really did make an effort to delve deeper in this second season. Rather than double down on the ‘80s references and fan service, they really made an effort to give us more to care about with the characters.
What did you think of this recent season? Is King’s praise warranted? Let us know down below!
