Marvel Studios has been ahead of DC at every turn (on the big screen, at least), with one notable exception: out of the 17 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel has yet to release one centering on a female superhero.
In Vanity Fair‘s cover story about Avengers: Infinity War and the future of the MCU, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had this to say about whether or not he wished his own company had released a female superhero film before DC’s Wonder Woman:
“Yeah. I think it’s always fun to be first with most things.”
Feige has no hard feelings however, and went on the express his own love of Wonder Woman, telling the Vanity Fair journalist about his favorite scene, the heroine’s powerful stand in No Man’s Land.

As for the future of Marvel and their own first female-centric superhero film, Captain Marvel, Feige had this to say:
“Everything’s going to work out. Captain Marvel is a very different type of movie.”
Captain Marvel is set to fly into theaters on March 6, 2019, which will be followed by DC’s second female superhero film, Wonder Woman 2, in November of the same year.
