Recently, Shazam! director David F. Sandberg shared a bunch of comics audiences could read in anticipation of the coming DC film. In anticipation of any film based on the subject matter, it’s common for audiences to want to brush up on the subject before watching the films, but in the case of comic book movies, they often read through piles of material.

While film adaptations of novels tend to be, you know, based on the novel, many superhero films are based on a character, and then they cherrypick elements from different comic book interpretations to create the film. However, with the case of the upcoming Deadpool 2, it looks like Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld won’t even give audiences an idea of what comics they should consume. Why? Because it would spoil the film.

This is a pretty interesting statement from the comic book artist and writer. Usually, films are different enough from their source material — or at the very least enough of an amalgamation from various different comics — that reading them doesn’t ruin the experience. However, from the sound of this, the film will at least take some pretty key, spoilerific, events from at least one of the comics — enough to make Liefeld hesitant to share any recommendations.
