The western frontier is always a dangerous area as demonstrated with the popular series Yellowstone from co-creator Taylor Sheridan. This wild west was even more dangerous with the prequel series 1883.
The impressive cast includes Sam Elliott (A Star Is Born, Road House), Tim McGraw (Tomorrowland, The Blind Side), Faith Hill (The Stepford Wives, Pearl Harbor), Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade, Monster’s Ball), Isabel May (Alexa & Katie, Young Sheldon), and LaMonica Garrett (Designated Survivor, Sons of Anarchy).
Here is the brief synopsis:
1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land—Montana.

For fans of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan is producing a traditional western series rather than the modern westerns he’s known for like Yellowstone, Hell or High Water, and even Wind River. Do expect the convention twist and turns with complicated characters. Besides the Dutton family connection, it’ll be interesting to associate more direct links in dramatic ways of the two generations that are 140 years apart.
Paramount Network will air a special simulcast premiere event for 1883 on Sunday, December 19, following a new episode of Yellowstone. Of course, it’ll be streaming for the Paramount+ subscribers.
