First Full Body Image of GODZILLA

GodzillaEver since word of Legendary’s reboot of Godzilla was announced fans have wondered what the mythical movie monster would look like this time around. You might recall that in Rolland Emmerich’s 1998 film- the last major studio attempt at bringing Godzilla to the big screen- they took a pseudo-scientific approach and attempted to make the creature look more like an actual lizard. If you don’t recall the creature’s design in that high-grossing creative failure, here’s a reminder:

Godzilla 1998

In the original Japanese films, Godzilla was more upright. It was more unabashedly, “Here’s a guy in a rubber suit.” Well, the folks behind the upcoming 2014 feature film have opted to go for a more classic approach. While there hasn’t been an “official” still released from the production, Godzilla-Movies uncovered an image from an upcoming promotional piece that ties-in with the movie. You can see it below:

There it is, in all its old school glory. The design clearly sticks close to the original, which is sure to delight purists. If I may opine, I’d say I’m surprised the face isn’t more ferocious-looking. I’m sure the monster will look intense rampaging around a city causing mass destruction, but that face just doesn’t seem particularly imposing on its own.

With an impressive cast that includes Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Victor Rasuk, Juliette Binoche, and Elizabeth Olsen- and directed by Gareth Edwards, Godzilla will roar its way into theaters on May 16, 2014.
