Jason Voorhees To Take A Stab At 2015

friday-the-13th-screen-bigIt would appear Jason didn’t want to be left out of the party. 2015, as you likely know, is set to be a historic year for Hollywood. Expect records to be broken, your wallet to be empty, your family to forget what you look like, and your brain to be turned to cuchifritos. It’s the year when we will see the second Avengers, Batman vs Superman, Bond 24, Fantastic Four, Jurassic World, Terminator 5, Ant-man, Hunger Games 4, Star Wars: Episode VII, Mission: Impossible 5, Warcraft, and more.

Well, not that Jason Voorhees deserves to be in the same breath as most of those, but the Friday The 13th franchise- for better or worse- has been an ongoing staple in Hollywood for over thirty years. Paramount has announced that the next entry in the slasher series is set to come out ahead of all those big budget franchise sequels on March 13 of that colossal year. Notable here, though, is that it actually won’t be a sequel to the successful 2009 reboot of the series. When that film grossed over $91 million worldwide on a $19 million budget, many assumed that this would lead to a new slew of Jason films. For whatever reason, the series stalled, and Warner Bros sold the rights back to Paramount. So this one will be- you guessed it- another reboot.

What may make this one even remotely a “fresh” take, though, is that they’re considering doing it in the form of a found footage movie. That’s right, like the Paranormal series. No word on whether that remains the plan, but it was definitely something the studio was playing around with while the film was at its earliest stages of development. As of now, no personnel has been announced in terms of director, writer, actors, etc.

Tell me. You excited?
