Malcolm D. Lee In Talks For A Third BEST MAN Film

bestmanholidayFollowing a hugely successful opening weekend, it looks like we can all expect more “Best Man” movies. Malcolm D. Lee’s “The Best Man Holiday” raked in a stunning $30 million this past weekend, which is the fifth-largest opening for an R-rated romantic comedy ever. Deadline is reporting that the director is in talks to write, produce, and direct a follow-up to the ensemble comedy for Universal. The negotiations are said to be moving quickly, as the studio is ready to green light a sequel right away and not let another 14 years go by between these films- which was the case with the first two films in the now hot series.

As of now, nothing has been announced in terms of the cast. It is believed that no one had deals in place for another sequel, so it’s expected that everyone is going to be given a nice pay bump to return. “The Best Man Holiday” cost $17 million to make, and the first film cost $9 million. The studio will have to be careful with these negotiations as the low costs of the productions so far have been partially responsible for the favorable returns, yet their hands are also tied because the chemistry of this star-studded cast is one of its most marketable selling points.

Lee is currently rewriting an untitled project that he’s meant to direct for Fox Searchlight.

I wonder if Terrence Howard will once again become an issue as new deals are sought? Will he use his “Iron Man” experience here to assure that things go more smoothly this time? We shall see.
