Be prepared for more hyped-up concern from the segment of fans worried that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is going to be an overloaded mess. While we all ready know about the three villains shown in the trailer, and have caught nods to Doctor Octopus and Vulture- as well as continual word from Sony that they intend to expand their Spider-Man universe- Felicity Jones may have just confirmed the appearance of another character. Earlier this year, she was quoted as saying that she was playing “the Goblin’s girlfriend.” It’s been speculated that she’s playing Felicia Hardy (The Black Cat) or possibly Lily Hollister (Menace). In a recent chat with Collider, she didn’t reveal if either rumor was true, but she may have implied that she’ll be wearing a costume of some sort.
Below is the excerpt from the interview that deals with Amazing Spider-Man 2. The final answer is the one you can interpret as her “revelation” that she’s a comic book costumed character. Then again, she could just be talking about her wardrobe in the movie. You be the judge:
You’ve done a number of films that are small character pieces. What’s it like to then go do something the size of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where things don’t get much bigger?
JONES: It’s a completely different experience. That’s why I wanted to do something like that. I’ve done a lot of very low-budget indie films, so it was just really exciting and fun to be doing a film where there’s a lot more time and these huge, vast sets. I was like a kid in a playground. It was amazing! Â
That must be the definition of Hollywood movie magic.
JONES: Absolutely, yes! That’s so true! Yeah, definitely! It’s quite overwhelming.Â
When you work on something like that for a big studio, is there a moment where they pull you aside and say, “Don’t tell anyone about the story,†or is that just inferred?
JONES: I think that that’s inferred, mostly. You want to protect the story that you’re telling, and I guess that’s the reason.
Did you have a say in your costumes for that?
JONES: Oh, yeah, totally! Absolutely! It’s a medium that’s very collaborative. Actors and directors work on things together. That’s how I like to work, anyway. I don’t want to be told what to do. I want to share it with someone and work it out together. You know that person better than anyone. That’s my job.
So what do you think? A bombshell announcement or just people over-thinking a harmless answer? If it is true, how will you feel to know that there’s another Marvel character appearing in the sequel to Sony’s reboot? Which femme fatale would you rather it be?
