Cube and Hart About To Finalize Deals For ‘Ride Along 2’

ridealongTo the surprise of exactly…no one, a sequel has been green-lit for Ride Along. Tim Story’s buddy action flick has done some great business since being released in January, and Hollywood now wants more. Despite bad reviews (including my own), the film managed to open to a record-breaking $41.5 million, and has since gone on to make over $120 million and counting.

This was Story’s highest profile film since his two Fantastic Four movies, and the director has signed on to make the sequel. Deadline is also reporting that the film’s stars, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, are closing in on their deals to return. The two actors have proven to be highly bankable, with Cube’s long track record being a highly underrated commodity in Hollywood. The former rap superstar has a lifetime box office cume of over $1 billion, and his average gross is $41 million.

With the success of Ride Along, and the way the buddy action formula seems to catch fire in cycles, it wouldn’t be hard to see it become this generation’s Rush Hour– which was the last generation’s Lethal Weapon.

As of now, no release or production date has been set for Ride Along 2.
