Goyer To Helm ‘The Breach.’ DC Implications?

goyerOver the weekend, I read a great article on Forbes that outlined how Warner Bros is seemingly trying to put a little bit of distance between themselves and the Nolan/Goyer tandem that created their last 4 big DC properties. Now THR is adding fuel to that fire with its report that David Goyer has signed on to direct The Breach for Lionsgate.

Why do these two items seemingly relate to each other? Because with the intense production schedule that the untitled Batman/Superman project and Justice League are heading into these next two years, it says something that Goyer is going to be able to find the time to prep, shoot, and finish off production on a completely separate project for another studio- if he’s going to be as involved as everyone initially thought he was with WB/DC’s upcoming slate. For more on how and why WB/DC may be backpedaling on Goyer and Nolan, you should check out the Forbes piece. It’s a good read.

The Breach is a sci-fi action thriller, based on the 2009 novel by Patrick Lee. The film is being written by Justin Rhodes, and will be the first time Goyer has sat in the director’s chair since The Unborn, 5 years ago.

Here’s a synopsis of the book: Travis Chase, an ex con/cop, stumbles upon a crashed Boeing 747 in the Alaskan wilds while hiking alone. He then finds out that the people, dead in the 747 were related to a secret organization named Tangent, whose task is to house a dangerous portal named the Breach. [Synopsis Courtesy of WikiPedia]

Lionsgate is said to be fast-tracking The Breach.
