Nikki Finke, the original founder of Deadline- who is getting ready to “go solo” and launch her own website- has released a scoop via Twitter that should make some folks happy. According to Finke, the directing duo behind The Lego Movie- Phil Lord and Chris Miller- are in talks to take over the reins of Ghostbusters 3. When it was announced earlier this week that Ivan Reitman, who helmed the first two Ghostbusters movies, was leaving the project, many wondered who might get the call.
Hot duo to direct #Ghostbusters3? My sources say Phil Lord & Chris Miller ('Lego Movie', '21 Jump St') in talks to replace Ivan Reitman.

While Lord and Miller are currently hot due to the smash hit Lego Movie, they also directed the R-rated comedy hit 21 Jump Street. So they definitely have the chops.
Ghostbusters 3, according to Reitman- who is staying on as a producer- will follow a new team of proton pack-wearing heroes, with a couple of the original characters showing up in a smaller capacity. Dan Aykroyd will also be helping with the producing duties. He announced as much when he tweeted this the other day, in response to the Reitman news: “Packs on! Will have Ivan’s back as I help him produce a GB 3 that Harold would be proud of.“
The script has undergone many drafts, tweaks, and changes over the years. The last one, turned in by The Office writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, is said to be the best take for a modern Ghostbusters movie.
What do you think? Are the Lego/Jump Street guys a good fit for Ghostbusters 3?
