Electro Strikes! Clip From ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’

ASM2ELECTRO_001Sony has released a clip from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that was part of the special 30 minute preview I watched last month. It’s only a minute long, but it depicts Max Dillion’s (Electro) attack on Times Square, and features Spidey using his webbing in fairly interesting ways. As I said when I wrote about the preview I attended, Peter’s web shooting abilities are very nicely displayed in this movie as he uses them in far more exciting ways than we’ve seen before. This scene takes place shortly after the accident that created Electro has taken place.

Electro feels betrayed by Spider-Man in this clip and, after at first trying to contain his new shocking powers, decides to unleash hell on the civilians in Times Square that night.

Electro is played by Jamie Foxx, and that Andrew Garfield back in the tights as Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, Sony’s series reboot of the Marvel icon.

Something else to note here is that the score of the film, provided by Hans Zimmer, gets some play in this clip while also demonstrating one of its unique qualities. Webb spoke at the preview I attended, and detailed an interesting approach where there were actually words/lyrics incorporated into some of the scoring. Zimmer worked with Pharrell to inject some of Electro’s inner monologue into his musical themes. If you listen closely at the start of the clip, you’ll hear some of that.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrives on May 2.
