Below you can check out 25 minutes of Aliens: Fireteam gameplay. IGN shared the video which can be seen below. The outlet played with Craig Zinkievich and Matt Highison, the CEO and CCO, respectively, of Aliens: Fireteam developer Cold Iron Studios. The players faced off against different variations of the Xeno’s seen throughout the franchise, with some artistic license. Aliens have different classes themselves it seems. We saw for example the spitter, who is slightly tougher and spits acid on players from afar, the developers called it a significant threat which has to be dealt with.
The classes used in this first playthrough were Technician, Demolisher, and Gunner. Each class possess traits and loadouts like you’d expect them to with the Demolisher able to use heavy weaponry others can’t, for example. The classes also have two unique abilities on a cool down. Like most game of this type, choosing the right combination for your squad will be vital to your success. However, we all know there will be one class OP compared to the rest. Likely there will be a mad rush to choose whatever class becomes most popular. Though, in games like Aliens: Fireteam, which will be supported post-launch, the meta will change.

The game has been likened, even by the devs in this video, to Left 4 Dead. There are certainly some scenes here which will remind fans of that game. Calling for an elevator and having to wait and play defense against increasingly difficult waves of enemies until the objective is complete. Though, that’s a commonly used idea in a lot of video games I play these days it seems.
Jury is still out for me on this one. Any game of this ilk I tend to wait for early feedback before taking the plunge. However, if feedback is good, I could definitely see myself picking up Aliens: Fireteam. I just won’t be there day one, been burned too many times before.
