3 Body Problem has been renewed for Season 2 by Netflix, maybe even more than just Season 2 going by some of the language used. As covered by Variety, Netflix announced that more episodes of 3 Body Problem would be coming. They didn’t directly call it a Season 2 though. Here is what the trade reported.
‘Netflix announced on Wednesday that it had “renewed” “3 Body Problem,” but the streamer notably didn’t refer to the extension as a “Season 2.” Instead, it appears to be more of a case of Netflix ordering “additional episodes” instead of a new, full Season 2 order.’
‘Per a press release, the exact number of seasons and episodes will be announced at a later date.’
Now whilst we didn’t receive the press release (thanks Netflix), it does not appear to be very clear. That’s why there are trades and outlets reported anything from a Season 2 renewal to series of episodes shot to quickly finish the entire story.

So the poster says, ‘Returns until the end of the Universe‘. This would indicate both the figurative end of the story in the books, and the end of the series on Netflix. The comments repasted below in case they don’t fully show.

Netflix had said the seasons and episodes would be announced at a later date. I have a feeling it’s been given a full renewal. As in a commitment for several seasons to finish the story. I’m guessing we could be looking at four or five seasons total. The second and third books may be tricky to fit into one full season. However, that detail is what I’m kinda expecting, and perhaps that’s not been fully negotiated hence the partial announcement only?
Just my guess, and I could be wrong.
The good news is, if you enjoyed 3 Body Problem, which I did and so did all my friends, then we are getting more of it. When that may be, that remains to be seen? However, the showrunners told the world they were already prepping Season 2 in the hope it got renewed.
