Further to yesterday’s official trailer release, we have since found out that a 70 minute premiere for The Bad Batch is now confirmed for the May 4th release date. Not only that, but we also have confirmation that Episode 2 will release on Friday, May 7th. Lucasfilm/Star Wars themselves released the following statement on the trailer.
Check out the brand-new trailer for Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and original animated series launching exclusively on Disney+. Star Wars: The Bad Batch makes its debut on Tuesday, May 4, with a special 70-minute premiere, followed by new episodes every Friday starting on May 7.
To say this was unexpected is an understatement. I mean, fans did kinda expect that Episode 2 would come out the same Friday so the show will move into the usual Friday release slot. However no one expected that Star Wars day premiere to be a whopping 70 minutes long. That’s like an average animated movie in length. The Mandalorian‘s longest episode was just over 50 minutes, and the average animated Star Wars episode is 22-24 minutes. So I totally understand why fans are pumped for a release like this. It allows us fans to get completely into the story and see likely around one and a half hours of content within 4 days.

Eagle eyed fans have also spotted some clues in that trailer since it was released yesterday. For example, where is Crosshair? In the trailer whenever the group appear in the period after they seems to have escaped, Crosshair is not there. Fans have thus begun to speculate on two possibilities. Either Crosshair dies during that escape, or, slightly more intriguing he stays where he is and serves the Empire. This could just be editing, or a less dramatic reason for the character’s disappearance to be fair. However, I honestly think the fans who spotted this are onto something.
Apart from hating how the kid clone looks in that trailer, it was positively received by this fan. I’ll be checking out the 70-minute premiere for The Bad Batch come May 4th, what about you?
