According to director Chad Stahelski the Highlander Reboot film is set mostly in New York and Hong Kong. At least, that is the modern day setting for this tale which will of course also have some historical portions of the film one would imagine.

Speaking with The Direct recently Stahelski (John Wick) gave some first basic details about the film which he hopes to shoot by Spring next year.

“… And we’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong, and seeing how it goes. There’s big opportunity for action. There’s a chance to play a character that not a lot of people get to play. And it’s a bit of a love story, but not how you think. On ‘John Wick,’ I learned a lot on how to bend the storytelling a little… another kind of myth.”

It sounds like it may be set in a not too distant future. This way they can play with the style a little like they do in the John Wick movies. As for the part that’s in the 1500’s? It is worth noting this matches with the original. Connor in the original was born in 1518. Though who knows if this new Connor will have the same year of birth or not?

As you probably know, the Highlander Reboot will star Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod. Stahelski told the outlet how he convinced the actor to take the role.

“My selling point was, to [Henry Cavill], look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years. He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation. So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc there. And you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts…”

What do you think as director Chad Stahelski says the Highlander Reboot film is set mostly in New York and Hong Kong? Thoughts below as always.
