“How far would you go to score the ultimate gift?” Gaming in in 80s was the beginning of something amazing and every kid wanted to get their hands on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Nintendo really did change the world. From the book written by Kevin Jakubowski with the same name, 8-Bit Christmas is a story about a kid and his battle to get his hands on one. Warner Bros. Pictures released the official trailer for 8-Bit Christmas.
The 8-Bit Christmas Trailer
Who gives a kid bookends for Christmas? I guess some of my Christmas gifts over the years haven’t been stellar either. My grandmother would get me sweatshirts with fabric with an animal stuck on it and glitter paint piped around the border. Yeah, I didn’t want to wear that. This movie feels like A Christmas Story and Jingle All the Way. But instead of a BB gun or a Turbo Man action figure, it’s something way better, a Nintendo Entertainment System. Neil Patrick Harris plays adult Jake Doyle. He’s telling his daughter the story of his childhood adventure to get a Nintendo.
The official synopsis for 8-Bit Christmas:
From New Line Cinema and HBO Max comes “8-Bit Christmas,” a humorous and heartfelt look back at the adventures of childhood. Set in suburban Chicago in the late 1980s, the story centers on ten-year-old Jake Doyle’s herculean quest to get the latest and greatest video game system for Christmas.

This is a Christmas movie to get excited about. I do love Christmas movies with big adventure in them, but there’s some that I just didn’t like. Jingle All the Way had that epic Christmas toy chase like those crazy parents chasing a Tickle me Elmo or the Cabbage Patch dolls, but I felt the movie fell flat. Parents have been going nuts around Christmas for so many decades now.
8-Bit Christmas will stream on HBO Max on November 24.
