A Falcon/Winter Solider Limited Series In Development For Disney Streaming Service

Marvel Studios has done a fantastic job at bringing our favorite Marvel Comics characters to the big screen. As we saw with Avengers: Infinity War there are a lot of characters that will never be able to get a lot of screen time. It seems like Marvel and Disney have found a solution.

According to Variety Marvel and Disney are prepping a number of limited series that are based off of characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who do not have their own standalone films. With that said they are also reporting that Marvel heroes Falcon and Winter soldier will teaming up for potential series that will be available on the Disney streaming service.

To write this series they have brought on Malcom Spellman. He has previously worked as a writer and co-executive producer on the FOX hit series Empire as well as wrote the screenplay for the film Our Family Wedding. This proposed limited series is the first to find a writer. Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon and Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Solider are expected to reprise their roles in this limited series.

Also it is important to note that unlike the Netflix Marvel series like Daredevil, The Punisher and so on, these limited series meant for the Disney streaming service will be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige. It is also said that they will have larger budgets compared to their other television series.

Stan first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, but played a key role in the sequel Captain America: The Winter Solider in 2014. This is also the film where Mackie made his first appearance as Falcon.

If these Marvel limited series are developed for the streaming service, it will allow them to introduce so many B and C list characters that maybe would never be seen other than a comic book page. It will be interesting to see if they still continue to try an do shows like Marvel’s Agent of SHIELD and the Netflix Marvel shows, or if they will start to focus primarily on their streaming service shows. We will have to wait and see.
