The Swiss film A Piece of Sky is earning special international recognition for its memorable performances associated with the tough subject of mental illness. The film stars newcomers Michèle Brand and Simon Wisler from director Michael Koch in this story of a man suffering from a brain tumor in a remote alpine village.
The film also stars Elin Zgraggen, Daniela Barmettler, and Josef Aschwanden.

In a remote alpine village, Anna (Michèle Brand) works as a waitress and mail carrier to support her young daughter. She has fallen deeply in love with the village newcomer, Marco (Simon Wisler), a strong and silent farmhand from the lowlands. But soon after their wedding, Marco is diagnosed with a brain tumor. As the seasons change, his behavior grows increasingly erratic, leading to a severe transgression that threatens to tear the young family apart.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with actress Michèle Brand and director Michael Koch on the film. With Brand, we talked about her attraction to the project and starring in her first feature film. Koch explained his process of using undiscovered actors, the remote setting for the story, the farming lifestyle, and the choir as transitions between the chapters.
The film is Switzerland’s official submission for International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. Also, it received a special mention at the Berlin Film Festival 2022 for its portrayal of mental illness.
