Did the 2016 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows not quite scratch that TMNT itch you’ve been having since the 2007 animated film? Well, lucky for you, it looks like Paramount is set to dip back into the series that put Kevin Eastman on the map. For better or worse, it looks like another reboot of the franchise is on the way.
The report comes from Variety, who had a chance to catch up with producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller at the Critics’ Choice Awards. In that interview, Form pretty much just dropped the mini-bombshell, saying they were looking to hit production by the beginning of the year. In that interview, Fuller looked over at Form and asked “Did you just give something away?” to which Form responded “Maybe. It’s okay.”

“We did the preceding two Turtle movies. But I didn’t know we were saying we were making it, but that’s good to know.”
As of right now, they don’t have a director or cast, but they do have dates they’re trying to hit. When asked why they keep going back to the Turtles, Fuller said:
“The thing about the Turtles is the same thing about A Quiet Place. It’s about a family and being invested in a family. I say they are both family stories about a family sticking together and supporting one another.”

I’ll admit I enjoyed that first Ninja Turtles movie from 2014, though it didn’t quite scratch that itch perfectly. Hopefully, with this new one, they can help make it a little more palatable for general audiences — kind of like what is being done with many superhero films nowadays.
Then again, that’s a selfish request, and the Ninja Turtles are a brand that’s been primarily focused on kids for decades, so who am I to request something like that.
