Back in 2017, Edgar Wright released the film Baby Driver. While I still contest it was probably one of the worst film titles of the year, the movie itself was one hell of a ride. It bore the trademark Edgar Wright kinetic style, but with an added layer of mastery of the craft that comes with all his experience.
The film was a solid action flick better chase and car-centric action scenes than the best Fast and Furious movies out there. But the ending did leave some room open for a potential sequel, and Wright had expressed his desire to dip back into that world. But what progress has actually been made? Well, speaking with Empire Online, Edgar Wright revealed the following:
“A first draft of Baby Driver 2 exists.”

The outlet goes on to say it will feature “a whole swath of new characters following the original’s high body-count,” and Wright himself said it “takes the story further.”
Something refreshing I found about Baby Driver was that, ultimately, the lead character had to face the consequences of his actions. I wonder how this sequel will continue the grow the character without undoing his growth in that first film. Luckily, we’re in good hands. We’ll just have to see if it happens. As of this writing, Wright’s next film is a currently-untitled psychological horror-thriller, so we likely have at least a handful of years to wait until a sequel could ever happen.
