Former showrunner of The Acolyte (cancelled) has explained her former plans for Qimir (The Stranger) had future seasons been given. In a recent book, The Art of The Acolyte, Leslye Headland opens up about what the future would have held for Qimir had the show not been canned after a disappointing Season 1.

Rather than being Darth Plagueis’ apprentice, Headland planned for Qimir to become the First Knight of Ren. Quotes via CBM, (I am not buying this book).

“It was in the design of the character, as well as knowing that we were going to introduce Darth Plagueis, who has to end up with Palpatine as his apprentice. Following the Rule of Two – a precept that limited the Sith to just two at any given time, a master and an apprentice – one way to keep it going it is if the Stranger is the first Knight of Ren, part of a Sith-adjacent cult that we know eventually survives.”

Yeesh, I dislike this idea so much, I’m glad it was cancelled. When we meet the Knights on the sequels, only one of them is Force Sensitive, or at least enough to be a serious threat to a Jedi.

Why would a Dark Side user be content with being an offshoot of the Sith? Do they not have the dark ambition of multiple Sith Lords just because no one names then Sith? You can start to see some of the issues this would cause I’m sure? I can think of several other issues I won’t get into here.

However, most important for me, is that it makes Qimir’s story… less interesting. It’s like Plagueis is just wating for Palpatine to be born, which makes no sense. Palpatine doesn’t exist yet. Therefore, the only important canon detail that needs to be adhered to is that Plagueis remains the Lord of the Sith and needs a new apprentice by the time Palpatine is around. Outside that, Qimir could absolutley have already been the apprentice.

I’ll also add, I dislike Knights of Ren anyway and I’d rather we simply never hear of them again. Where were they during the prequels and OT if they have been around this long? Ultimately, why do Disney keep trying to get around the Rule of Two? Well, I know the answer to that, to create more bad guys they can have heroes kill in future movies. I’d much rather see a Jedi turn to the Dark Side and begin learning, than have someone hidden suddenly show up.

Well, what do you think of Lesly Headland’s former plans for Qimir had future seasons of The Acolyte been greenlit? Thoughts below.
