Acolyte Showrunner Was Intending Set-Up On Birth Of Anakin Skywalker And Have Yoda Help Cover Up Season 1

The Acolyte showrunner Leslye headland was looking to set up the birth of Anakin Skywalker and have Yoda help cover up what happened in Season 1. That’s what Headland said in a recent interview with The George Lucas Talk Show. The Acolyte was cancelled after Season 1 and no doubt why. It was one of the most expensive TV series ever made and at that price you need a massive hit. The Acolyte was not well received by fans, or critics.

I think like many fans I had several issues, but I hoped at the time a Season 2 may improve the story. That was not to be and to be honest, after seeing this interview I’m relieved.

Judge the news for yourself below. However, for me it sounds like Headland was going to canonise that Plagueis (and Sidious) had something to do with the birth of Anakin. This is a point where many fans get confused because it was shown in a comic book. However, that comic book was done in a way that didn’t make it a fact even within the comic. So it is absolutley not canon and I’ve never liked the idea.

Now, I may be wrong and Headland would have showed the birth of Anakin as a response by the Force to balance out what Plagueis was up to? We’ll never know now I guess.

Headland says she believes Mother Koril is still alive and teased that Osha and Mae’s mysterious origin would have eventually been linked to Anakin Skywalker’s birth.

Again, there is a way to do this without canonising that annoying comic book. However, I do think this is one where perhaps the mystery should be left as a mystery. The amount of internet discussions I’ve had over this, it would be unfortunate to suddenly have a canon answer, or explanation.

One fan complaint in the series was the inclusion of Ki-Adi-Mundi. The complaint being that he shouldn’t have lived that long ago. Headland fires the blame squarely at Lucasfilm’s Pablo (“the canon is whatever it needs to be”) Hidalgo.

“I asked Pablo Hidalgo. I don’t remember what he said about the birthdate or lifespan, but Pablo said it was cool. Many many people read the script.”

“In that scene, they mention, ‘We should alert the High Council.’ He says that and because of that you assume he’s not on the High Council unless he’s not gotten there. Pablo said, if he’s not on the High Council, that you can use him.”

I have my issues with Hidalgo in his role at Lucasfilm. However, the guy probably has zero power and is told to do whatever the well paid creatives ask him for unless it’s crazy.

Yoda Corruption

Finally, Yoda would have helped Vernestra Rwoh’s cover up of Qimir’s crimes had a Season 2 been greenlit. But don’t come at her folks…

“Don’t come at me in the comments, because he does it in Clone Wars. So I don’t want to hear about it.”

The good thing is, we don’t have to hear about it either now the show is canned. I joke a little, as I have no major issues with Yoda doing what he thinks is right and getting it wrong. Long as he learns that lesson and grows into the person we see in the PT, which of course helps him grow again into the wisdom master of the OT.

So what do you think of the news The Acolyte was really going to touch on the birth of Anakin Skywalker and Yoda was going to be involved in a cover up? Thoughts below as always.
