IT: Chapter Two is proving to be a financial success. While many critics are having a hard time having an enjoyable theater going experience with this one. Regular folks who enjoy a good movie going experience truly are embracing the quirky horror movie. At the time of this writing, IT: Chapter Two has a 64% fresh rating from critics versus an 80% fresh score from the general audience. The film opened with $91 million in box office revenue and it did that on a very modest budget for a release of this size.
So, get ready for IT: Chapter Three — or maybe it’ll be called IT: Chapter Zero. Either way, you may be in store for it. Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård certainly thinks you might be. Skarsgård spoke to EW prior to the film’s release and he had the following to say:
“It would have to be the right type of approach to it. The book ends where the second movie ends, so that is the final chapter of this story. There is this interesting aspect of going back in time before all this happened. There might be a story there that might be worth exploring. Obviously, that would be a story that’s not in the book, it would be a freestanding story, but obviously within the same universe. So, there might be something interesting out of it. I think it would be fun.”
I’m all for another dive into the sleepy town of Derry, Maine. Should something like this happen, I guess the main question is where to go with the series from here. Do you set it in the past, sometime shortly after those Deadlights arrive? It could be interesting to see the birth of Pennywise. I mean we saw some of his various shapes when he fought the Native tribe during the flashback featuring the ritual of chud. Or maybe the filmmakers take us somewhere else altogether. What do you think of Skarsgård’s comments?
