Adam Driver Says He Knew Where The Sequel Trilogy Was Heading Before Filming On The Force Awakens

With the abundance of fantastic content coming out in 2019, I hope you haven’t forgot about Star Wars. Ahh, my beloved Star Wars, I am sad to stay it’s not at the top of my list for things I am most excited about this year, and for me, that is a first. The upcoming and still untitled Episode IX will bring a close to story of the first family of Star Wars, the Skywalkers.

Adam Driver who plays the troubled villain known as Kylo Ren, recently spoke with Deadline and said he has known where Disney’s sequel trilogy has been heading since before filming The Force Awakens. You can check out what Driver had to say below.

“With Girls, there wasn’t really an end in sight, so it was fun to develop it as I went, and to think about where it was all going. With Star Wars, I had one piece of information of where it was all going, and that’s where it has been in my head for a long time, and things were building towards that.”

Ok, so, I would very much like to know this one piece of information, because if you ask me and even a couple other LRM writers, one of our bigger issues with the new films is it seems like there wasn’t an overall arc set before filming began. That’s why it seems like certain things J.J. Abrams hinted at, were scrapped once Rian Johnson came in for The Last Jedi.

We (it’s only a few of us, not LRM as a whole, actually it may just be Cam and I, oh and maybe Kyle) refer to it as playing “pass the baton”, where one director picks up where the last one left off, and makes his own story, with little regard for what came before. J.J. Abrams started the trilogy, and he will also bring fans its conclusion. I have to wonder what the sequel films would look like, had Abrams been behind all three films.

What are you thoughts on this, does the sequel trilogy feel like it was all planned out before, or are they playing “pas the baton’? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below!
