Ahsoka Episode 6 Review – Color Me Intrigued

Ahsoka Episode 6 review and I'll start by saying, this was a good one. What was good about it, well that takes a bit longer to explain.

You’re here for my Ahsoka Episode 6 review and I’ll start by saying, this was a good one. What was good about it, well that takes a bit longer to explain. There’s NO SPOILERS in saying we are literally in a whole new Galaxy here after how the last two episodes ended. However, there will be no plot spoilers as such here. I’ll keep things as vague as possible whilst still giving my thoughts.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

The episode is titled Far, Far Away and it’s apt. Obviously all our main players are on their way or already arrived at a brand new Galaxy. One we have never explored much at all as part of the current Star Wars canon. There’s something sort of exciting about Star Wars going to a place that’s well, alien. Yeah, I know it’s just Star Wars and we go to new planets all the time. However, I felt like the way a new planet was shot, made it feel like something from Dune over Star Wars. Ancient, fallen long ago kind of deal.

Everything had a way of feeling new and mysterious. We even get hints of ancient lore without any actual context to intrigue us, and I am intrigued so they did  a good job. Love me a bit of ambiguous but tantalizing ancient history. I guess it’s the fantasy fan in me and Star Wars has so many fantasy elements to it already.

There are also hints at connections between the GFFA and this neighboring Galaxy, which make me curious to learn more. Additionally, there’s some mysterious threat, unsaid, unnamed, but something sensed, and that is also intriguing.

The episode is well shot and I enjoyed the performances of those involved. Some names I won’t mention for spoiler reasons, but this is an actors episode. There’s very little in the way of any action. However despite that I found myself more glued to the screen than I did with any of the action heavy episodes earlier in the season. It almost felt like every line of dialogue was a clue that needs to be interpreted. There is a hell of a lot going on here that we don’t yet understand and the episode is chock full of teases, both in dialogue and visually. Those fans who like to speculate and theorize on where the overall story is going will have a ton of ammunition this week.

I guess that’s what pleased me most about this episode. I felt there was drama in the mysteries, and what was left unsaid or half said. It feels like it’s been a while since I could properly speculate on a larger story ahead in Star Wars. The sequels were beat the same bad guy as before and once Mando found Luke, there seemed less mystery to his journey in The Mandalorian. Andor has drama in spades, but it’s very nature of speculation is different in that we know how the story ultimately ends for Cass.

I’m not saying this was better than the best Andor episodes because it was not. But this does have some qualities which Andor does not have in its DNA.

Final Word

It would be easy to get into SPOILERS here and talk about specific conversations that intrigued me the most. However, I won’t! I will say, there is a shot with a Star Destroyer that was one of the best I’ve seen outside the movies. It’s not going to spoil much but it was very well pulled off. I also really liked meeting a new alien species, and never though too much of another we meet, who felt too generic.

Overall though, this was probably my favorite episode of Ahsoka Season 1 thus far. It could get better, however I doubt other episodes this scene will leave me post-episode with my imagination running wild, which Episode 6 did. That might not attract you as a viewer, but it worked for me. Color me intrigued. Same grade as last week, but I liked this one for different reasons a little more. Not quite ready to drop an A+ yet though.

GRADE: A

The Cantina Reviews should be with you later today or early tomorrow and I believe Kyle is really angry about something. So that should be fun, because Shockey and I disagree completely. Here is last week’s TCR link if you haven’t heard what our little trio thought of Episode 5.
