Aladdin Featurette Shows The Making Of Agrabah

Damn, Aladdin. Why you gotta be so confusing to me? This film’s marketing material has me feeling all kinds of emotions, and I feel like none of them are anywhere near each other on a spectrum of awful to awesome. The initial teasers for this thing didn’t do much for me, and that first trailer really got me (and millions of fans) worried about how they were handling the Genie. And then there was that amazing second trailer…followed recently by that lackluster “Prince Ali” clip.

At this stage, I’m just not entirely sure if this is going to reach Beauty and the Beast level, but if there’s one thing I’ve enjoyed quite a bit on this movie, it’s the costumes and production design. Say what you will about the visual effects, but the practical world they’ve crafted looks nothing short of stunning to me.

In this new two-minute featurette, we get to take a peek behind the camera at the locations they went to to shoot Aladdin, as well as the hard work that went into building the lovely kingdom of Agrabah. In this version of the kingdom, it’s not just an Arabian-set place, but a global trading port, so it has worldwide influences.

It certainly got me to appreciate all the work into this thing, even if the marketing material hasn’t gotten me the most thrilled.
