Aladdin: Genie Tells Us A Story In New TV Spot

I know you all have major questions about the upcoming Aladdin live-action adaptation from Disney. And yet, chief among your questions is one big one: will the new film retain the frame narrative created in that original animated film be retained? For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, we had that bit at the beginning of that first movie where a merchant tells us the story of the lamp — a merchant who is implied to be the Genie.

In this new TV spot, we have some serious hints that that aspect is retained, as Will Smith’s voiceover says that “it’s time to tell” us a story about Aladdin, the princess, and the lamp. That seems like a pretty cut-and-dry confirmation. That being said, it’s always possible Disney created the voiceover for this trailer alone, as that’s been done plenty before in the past…but the easiest explanation revolves around them sticking pretty close to the source material.
