Marvel Comics has announced an Aliens Vs Avengers comic series is coming from writer Jonathan Hickman who did the most recent version of Secret Wars. We currently have a Predator Vs Wolverine comic on the go and I guess this is the next step. Bear in mind, Disney now owns both franchises after their purchase of Fox. Here are the details as per Marvel.com.
Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic will oversee the series, the pair were the creative team behind the most recent Secret Wars events in Marvel comics.
The four part story is set in a new timeline in the future. It therefore features older versions of many Marvel characters. The basic plot seems simple enough, Aliens reach Earth, and in this Universe they find a whole host of superheroes who can stand against them.
“Probably one of the coolest things about the project is how we’ve found really fun ways to ‘Avengerize’ Aliens and ‘alien-up’ Avengers,” Hickman shared with Entertainment Weekly. “I think fans will be surprised at how elegantly some of those things fit together. It really turned out to be a chocolate-and-peanut-butter situation.”
“Hickman and Ribić are storytelling masters, and they bring a cinematic quality to this that seamlessly merges the high action and soap opera that Marvel fans expect with the deep terror and cosmic awe that the Alien universe so inspires,” Marvel editor Sarah Brunstad said. “Watching them cut loose across the entire lexicon of these two great franchises is jaw-dropping. ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN IN THIS BOOK—get ready.”

I kinda feel curious enough to pick this up. Yet, it kinda goes against what I tend to enjoy. For example, I simply cannot see hwo the Aliens can be much of a threat within the Marvel Universe. Check out the cover below. Captain Marvel is a good example. What can a Xenomorph do to hurt Carol? She’s almost invulnerable, so she could literally mash them into the dirt by the hundreds and even the acid would not effect her. In fact, she could just supernova them into oblivion without much effort.
The only way I can see it working at all is if the Aliens Facehug some heroes. Therefore, the Xeno’s get more powerful by being grown inside superhumans. For example, if a Facehugger was to attach to Wolverine, would it just keep falling off? Or, would the creature gestate and come out with healing abilities? Could Hulk get impregnated? Would the resulting Xeno even be able to break through his chest to get out? Well, if it’s a Hulk sixed Xeno, maybe?
It’s more morbid curiosity at this point for me. But I really will have to pick this up and see for myself. Even if I start laughing and put the book down.
