Amanda Idoko is no stranger to writing comedies.
Her writing credits range from sitcoms like The Mayor to the animated comedy Central Park on Apple TV+.
With Breaking News in Yuba County, the screenwriter has a dark comedy gem under her belt that even made it to The Black List back in 2017 and 2018.
The film has quite a female ensemble that tells the comedic story from multiple female perspectives. The cast includes Alison Janney (Mom), Regina Hall (Girls Trip), Wanda Sykes (Wanda at Large), Mila Kunis (Bad Moms), Awkwafina (Ocean’s Eight), Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers), Ellen Barkin (The Fan), Samira Wiley (Orange Is the New Black), and Bridget Everett (Patti Cake$). Also, they are supported by Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket), Clifton Collins, Jr. (Star Trek), and Keong Sim (The Last Airbender). Tate Taylor (The Help) directed the film.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When an overlooked pencil pusher (Janney) catches her husband in bed with another woman, the shock causes him to die of a heart attack so she buries his body and takes advantage of the growing celebrity status that comes from having a missing husband. But she quickly finds herself in over her head, dodging cops, and criminals, all while trying to keep the truth from her half-sister (Kunis), a local news anchor who’s desperate for a story, and a relentless local policewoman (Hall).
