Amazon Prime Video seems to really be pressing the foot on the gas on a lot of their original content. This past Friday was the release of the first season of The Boys, next month we will be getting Carnival Row, Jack Ryan just also announced their second season that will be coming soon and The Expanse returns for a fourth season, first as an Amazon Original, this December. Great quality series for audiences to invest in covering many different worlds.

Speaking of investing in a series, yesterday Amazon Prime Video announced that they have ordered a fifth season of the science fiction series The Expanse. All this comes as we had just mentioned above we are getting ready for the fourth season where we find the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the U.N. to explore new worlds that are beyond the Ring Gate. The fact that humanity has been given access to explore new Earth like planets has further raised the tension between Earth, Mars and the Belt. As all three nations race to colonize one of these planets and claim their natural resources, they ignore the fact that there may be more larger dangers that are waiting for them.

The Expanse is based on the popular science fiction novel by James S.A. Corey and was developed and scripted by the Academy Award winning writing team of Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby who also serve as executive producers for season 4 along with Maren Shankar, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck an Dan Nowak. Shankar will continue to serve also as showrunner for the series. The Expanse season 4 is produced by Alcon Television Group.

I am very happy that The Expanse found a home at Amazon Prime Video. It’s a great Sci-Fi series that showcase the politics behind trying to explore the great beyond. They had been careful the first few seasons at introducing alien like beings, so I am curious to see how they introduce, for example these ruins of a long dead alien civilization. But with this announcement at least we know we can count of the series to be around for this season and the following.
