Michelle Yeoh in American Born Chinese
Fresh off their major Academy Award wins for Everything Everywhere All At Once, Disney+ took the opportunity to showcase and reunite Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan, and Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu for the new Disney+ series American Born Chinese.
The rest of the cast includes Ben Wang (Chang Can Dunk0, Yeo Yann Yann (Wet Season), Chin Han (Mortal Kombat), Daniel Wu (Reminiscence), former Taekwondo champion Jimmy Liu and Sydney Taylor (Just Add Magic).
Here is a brief description of the series:
Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang, American Born Chinese tells the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling his high school social life with his home life. When he meets a new foreign student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.

Kelvin Yu (Bob’s Burgers, Central Park) is the executive producer and showrunner. Destin Daniel Cretton (Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) directed some episodes.
The thirty-second television promo aired the spot before yesterday’s Oscars telecast during the commercial break.
This TV spot featured Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu. However, the leading actor Ben Wang was barely featured in this trailer. Disney knows the momentum is with all these actors from Everything Everywhere All At Once for right now.
Disney+ sets the release date for American Born Chinese series on May 24.
