American Psycho 4K Review: Worth Another Dip?

“Do you like Huey Lewis and The News?” I sincerely hope so because Patrick Bateman is back in the satirical critique of 80’s power culture, American Psycho. Originally released on April 4, 2000, American Psycho gets a 4K Blu-ray makeover and rerelease delivered in a 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital) in the thriller based on the cult novel by author Bret Easton Ellis. From Lionsgate, the 4K version was released September 25.

American Psycho stars The Dark Knight’s Christian Bale, Spiderman’s Willem Dafoe, Suicide Squad’s Jared Leto, Hulk’s Josh Lucas, The Punisher’s Samantha Mathis, We Are What We Are’s Bill Sage, Lean on Pete’s Chloe Sevigny, Adaptations Cara Seymour, Maniac’s Justin Theroux, Dogma’s Guinevere Turner, and Walk the Line’s Reese Witherspoon. The 80’s have never been so frighteningly amazing. Dig in folks.

Re-watching this film in all its 4K majesty was amazing.  I could not help but thinking this movie features both Batman and The Joker. In fact, there is even a scene in which Batman murders the Joker in cold blood, before shouting out his name. Bruce Wayne is a big Phil Collins fan, which I did not know. His preferred method of dispatching bad guys is a tried and trusted ax to the head. Still with me? Good. Hey, Paul!

If you really have no idea about American Psycho now would be the perfect time to get aquatinted. Do me a favor and check it out. Here’s a tantalizing synopsis: “Patrick Bateman, a young, well-to-do man working on Wall Street at his father’s company, kills for no reason at all. As his life progresses, his hatred for the world becomes more and more intense”.

This 4K upgrade comes with several cool features making owning this a must. Fans of American Psycho will thoroughly enjoy the brand-new commentary with screenwriter and director Mary Harron.

  • NEW Audio Commentary with writer/director Mary Harron
  • Previously Recorded Audio Commentary with writer/director Mary Harron
  • Audio Commentary with writer Guinevere Turner
  • Deleted Scenes with optional director Audio Commentary
  • “The ‘80s: Downtown” Featurette
  • “American Psycho: From Book to Screen” Featurette

If you’re already a fan, there’s been no better time to jump in, and if you’re an old fan, there’s nothing like a 4K makeover to help reignite the love you once had for the film.
