Ana María Martínez is among the cast of the classic AINADAMAR. Martínez, portrays Margarita Xirgu who tells the narrative of poet Federico García Lorca’s life up to before he was killed during the Spanish Civil War. AINADAMAR takes the stage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in Los Angeles from April 26th-May 18th.
The Synopsis
Margarita Xirgu (Ana María Martínez) has spent half her acting career in exile, mourning Federico García Lorca (Daniela Mack), the dear friend whom she couldn’t convince to flee Franco’s reign of terror. Lorca was once on the verge of writing his way into a new Golden Age in Spain. But dictators have no use for poets.

The soprano singer Ana María Martínez was born in La Isla del Encanto, Spanish for The Island of Enchantment, Puerto Rico. She comes from French and Spanish ancestry and is the daughter of opera singer, Evangelína Colón. Martínez graduated from Julliards School with a Masters degree in music. Today she is respected as a prime soprano and has performed at the most prestigious halls and opera houses in the world. The stage has welcomed her with other artists like Gustavo Dudamel, Andrea Bocelli and Plácido Domingo.

With AINADAMAR coming to town I was granted the opportunity to speak with Ana María Martínez to discuss her participation. She spoke about the story line, the work involved in the performances and the feelings she hopes spectators will get to experience. I of course had to ask her to share about her career and how she got started. In addition to her opinion about existing borders in the opera genre and more!
