Some fact and Buzz today as Andor S2 gets a release date and we have the latest rumors about the new Star Wars movies. Let’s start with the facts and as you probably already know D23 happened this weekend. Skeleton Crew, Andor Season 2 and more were featured along with The Mandalorian and Grogu on the movie side. Check out our coverage of the convention from a Star Wars point of view in the related post below.
Andor was also publicly given a Season 2 release date of April 22, 2025. Andor Season 1 was critically lauded and in my opinion the best Star Wars live-action anything since Return of the Jedi. To say I’m hyped to see Season 2 is an understatement. Sadly, still no new public trailer footage released online. We did get a new image of Cassian (Diego Luna) in costume for Season 2 shared online as well as the release date, nothing more.

Rumors On New Star Wars Movies
Last week also saw the story from trades that Simon Kinberg was writing and producing a new Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm. Of course this has got the Barside Buzz….buzzing, I guess. The latest is from Jeff Sneider on last week’s The Hot Mic with John Rocha. Sneider had some interesting claims to make regarding the upcoming movies in development.
You can of course check the show out for yourself. However, you come here to read, so here is what Sneider said, in my own words.
Sneider admits the news of the Kinberg trilogy was a surprise to him and he hadn’t heard it was happening. However, he has since that story broke heard some news from his source. In the original Deadline article one writer had heard from sources this would be Episodes 10-12, another writer heard from sources it was not. Sneider says his sources have told him that the idea is for 10-12. However, he thinks they don’t want that out there just in case this one like so many others doesn’t go into production. Lucasfilm are however aware that Episode 10-12 would likely get bums on seats again.
Sneider also says he’s heard that Daisy Ridley will be the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ of this trilogy. In other words, there will be new lead characters and a new story, but Rey will be in the background as the master. Exactly how this will work no one knows yet outside very few people. That’s what his source has told him though and remember how accurate Sneider has been on Star Wars news.

As for the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy movie? Some fans wonder if this new trilogy will replace that? Sneider admits he has no idea. All he knows is that he heard that movie had a new writer after Stephen Knight left, but he doesn’t have a name yet. He thinks it’s a separate project from Kinberg’s trilogy. Though Sneider admits it’s possible they could have cancelled it completely for this and he’s just not heard. Both Sneider and Rocha then speculate that perhaps the Obaid-Chinoy directed movie is still coming and it will set the scene for this new trilogy? Truth is they don’t know for sure though.
Sneider has heard that Lucasfilm are not being pressured by Disney to have a film make that December 2026 slot. That space was originally supposed to be the Rey Sequel, but that now seems tight with no script. So maybe it will still happen, or maybe it will be canned and this new trilogy will begin in 2027?
Sneider also mentions that he had heard the Shawn Levy movie would feature an older (possibly recast Rey). Ultimately we just don’t know enough to say whether the Rey Sequel or Levy’s pitch are still happening or not? The pair also speculated about the future of Kathleen Kennedy.
Kathleen Kennedy
I like many in this industry felt like KK would leave Lucasfilm at the end of her current contract. Not that she’d be fired, but that she’d retire the role. Ultimately she hasn’t done a great job with the franchise. So does this new trilogy indicate KK will be staying on, or will she just get producer credits for the films she set up before she left? We have no answer on that one.
Lastly the guys debated why someone like Kinberg has been hired? I have also questioned the man’s writing history and producing history. Rocha seems to agree with me that Kinberg is a bad choice. Sneider feels like perhaps his record of getting projects over the line may be what Bob Iger is after before he leaves again? I hope not myself. Lucasfilm tried that with the sequel trilogy and hired the wrong person to develop it at a rush. Star Wars cannot afford to make any more poor movies and Kinberg writes some poor movies. I guess I’ll judge his Star Wars movies if and when they get made. However, I said J.J. Abrams was a bad idea and I was proved right.
What do you think of all this? First we have that Andor S2 release date and secondly the rumors around these new Star Wars movies. Share your thoughts below if you can.
