Every vote needs to count.

The year 2020 may be the most significant divided election in recent memory with Donald Trump’s presidency on the line. Both political parties, Republicans and Democrats, are pivoting to their voting advantages on whom could be voting at the polls.

In Amazon Films documentary, All In: The Fight For Democracy, it is an in-depth look into legal voter suppression targeting minorities in the United States. According to the documentary, the current issues with long voting lines and mail-in ballots are not accidents.

The film observes historical and current activism against voter suppression. It covers the issues of women’s suffrage, Jim Crow Laws, gerrymandering, and even the election issues with the Stacey Abrams gubernatorial loss to Brian Kemp in 2018.

LRM Online had the opportunity to speak with a representative with the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. One of the issues covered in the documentary was the restoration of voting rights for former felons in the state of Florida.

Specifically, I spoke with legislative analyst Angel Sanchez on behalf of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. We talked about the program, the current issues, and the future of voting rights. He does not appear in the documentary.
