The Angry Birds are back. I know. It’s been a while since the video game franchise was relevant, but still, Sony Pictures Animation has still managed to squeeze out a sequel, Angry Birds 2. the first movie was a modest success with $352 million at the worldwide box office, but it worked because of its relatively small $73 million budget.

No doubt Sony is hoping to replicate that formula for this next film. Put out a fun little film in the vein of Illumination Entertainment for a reasonable budget and capitalize on the brand name and good faith of the first one. That being said, the first one wasn’t really loved by fans or critics, so I’m very interested to see how it’ll pan out once it eventually hits theaters.

This new film will be expanding things to an ice-covered island where a bird named Zeta lives. After being fed up living where she is, she opts to (for some reason) launch an iceball that brings in the characters from the previous film. What happens next? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. But will audiences bother heading out to the theaters? I know chances are slim that I will, but what about you? Let us know in the comments if you plan on going!
