Animaniacs Could Be Back As Soon As This Fall!

One of my favorite childhood animated series was Animaniacs. Although it was a variety show, it focused a lot on the three Warner siblings Yakko, Wakko and Dot. They lived in a water tower on the Warner Bros. Studios lot and drove everyone crazy. Along with them there were some other awesome characters with their segments like Pinky and the Brain, Slappy the Squirrel, The Goodfeathers, and one of my favorite Chicken Boo. A while back we got word that Stephen Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment was looking for a revival of Animaniacs. Then early in 2018 we learned that they have gotten a two-season order from Hulu.

Since then we haven’t heard much about the supposed reboot of the series until this weekend. Via Flickering Myth we have learned that the series is not only reuniting the series’ original cast but also it’s looking to premiere sometime this fall. Now keep in mind that all of that can change in a heartbeat due to the current state of our country. The original voice cast of the Warner trio Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, and Tress MacNeille are all set to return for the Hulu reboot. Earlier this month Paulson, who also voiced Pinky, revealed that Maurice LaMarche will also be reprising his voice as the Brain. Also Spielberg will be returning as executive producer.

One of my favorite things about the Animaniacs was it’s an insane mix of cartoon violence, adult humor, social commentary and even educational segments. Sometimes you were just watching characters beat each other with giant hammers. Other times you were learning about all of the past presidents. Re-watching the series as an adult was also a treat. I understood a lot of jokes that weren’t meant for me as a child.

I would be excited to see the Animaniacs again. Not sure how well it will do in our day and age. The fear is that because of people so quick to be offended by the content, the show would steer away from certain jokes, skits or even characters. Especially now that Hulu is owned by Disney. Hopefully the re-boot will do well so we can see the Warner siblings for a few more seasons. Now with that said… is it possible I could get one more season of Freakazoid?

Currently all five seasons of Animaniacs are available to be streamed on Hulu.
