Earlier this year, Ant-Man and the Wasp introduced audiences to Hope van Dyne’s mother, Janet. Despite the previous belief that the woman had died while going subatomic into the Quantum Realm, it turns out that she’d somehow made a living doing…things. Honestly, we still don’t know much of what she did, what she ate, or how she survived at all, and when we saw her, she had a unique look.
Of course, she had a suit on her, but she also donned a sort of raggedy trench coat. Though despite this look, I’d argue she looked no worse for wear. It didn’t feel to me like she’d been battling subatomic amoebas for decades. Apparently, as revealed by Marvel Studios artist Jackson Sze, they did almost go for a more war-torn approach:
“Survival Janet design option. Battle-hardened and self-sufficient, I imagine she would have modified her Wasp suit with materials she found useful in the Quantum Realm.”

Personally, I wish they went with this look. As I mentioned above, I never got the feeling that she had been battling against the forces of subatomic nature in her current incarnation. With this look, we would’ve gotten the feeling that this new normal she settled into made her a battle-hardened warrior.
Plus, the art gives her a pretty cool Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind aesthetic that I really like.
What do you think of this concept art? Do you wish they’d stuck with it? Let us know down below!
