Child’s Play is another horror franchise that’s set to get a facelift in the near future. For the first time in decades, perhaps people will actually be scared of this franchise for a change — and not in all the wrong ways. Thus far, we know that they will be ditching the core backstory of the original in favor of something more tech-y.
Now, a new report from ComicBook.com reveals more specific details on what we can expect. According to one of their sources, the film will follow “A defective ‘Buddy doll’ whose programming code was hacked so that he has no limitations to learning and also violence.”

So instead of the flick following a serial killer whose soul is trapped in a doll, this will come as a result of a machine learning everyone’s habits and escalating violence in some way. Perhaps it’ll be a situation where the doll becomes self-aware and tries to seize his opportunity to end the human race — though that’s just a speculation.
Previous reports indicated that this film could bear a Stranger Things-esque tone, with a group of kids stumbling upon the doll, but that specific report has yet to be corroborated by anyone else.
