Apple TV+ Offers Us A ‘Virtual Vacation’ This Holiday Season

Apple TV+

The 2020 holiday season is going to look a little different this year. Families that are usually getting together at a central location are having to stay home. Who would have thought that something that was supposed to last a few weeks will now be with us through the rest of the year? But in the long run, staying at home does have the potential of saving lives. But while we stay safe at home we still have the opportunity to virtually travel the world.

This holiday season Apple TV+ is offering us all a “virtual vacation” with our loved ones from our homes. They have a variety of quality documentaries that offer us different cultural perspectives. As well as being able to observe so much of nature’s beauty. Below are four of their documentary offerings that include Becoming You, Long Way Up, Becoming You, and the upcoming Earth at Night in Color. Below is some information on the series to help you choose where to start.

Becoming You

Narrated by Olivia Colman
“Becoming You,” is a global series about child development that explores how the first 2,000 days on Earth shape the rest of our lives. Told through the eyes of over 100 children across the world, from Nepal to Japan and Borneo, each episode offers a thought-provoking look at how children learn to think, speak and move, from birth to age 5. It underscores how different our journeys can be, but ultimately tells the story of our shared humanity and community when it comes to raising children.

Tiny World

Narrated by Paul Rudd
“Tiny World” grants viewers a unique perspective into the natural world, illuminating the ingenuity and resilience of some of the planet’s smallest creatures. With over 200 species filmed, each episode combines stunning cinematography with dynamic storytelling to show the world through the eyes of the tiniest animals and witness the extraordinary things they do to survive. Nearly a decade of filming in ecosystems around the world – ranging from the African savanna to the backyard garden – reveals never-before-seen moments captured by the latest in groundbreaking video technology.

Long Way Up

Starring Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman
“Long Way Up” reunites the best friends after more than a decade since their last motorbike adventure around the world. The new series will follow Ewan and Charley as they journey through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and up through Colombia, Central America, and Mexico. Also joining them are their longtime collaborators, directors David Alexanian and Russ Malkin, following them in their electric Rivians.

Earth At Night In Color

Narrated by Tom Hiddleston – Premieres December 4, 2020
Using cutting-edge cameras and a revolutionary editing process, “Earth At Night In Color” presents nature’s previously unseen marvels with striking new clarity. Captured across six continents, from the Arctic Circle to the African grasslands. This pioneering work follows the moonlit lives of animals at night. Revealing new insights and never-before-seen behaviors into some of our favorite species’ nocturnal habits. The show will also introduce relatively unknown creatures who are sure to become new icons of the animal kingdom.

I recommend sticking around the Apple TV+ streaming service for some of their other great series. These include Ted Lasso, Tehran, Defending Jacob, The Morning Show, and Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. While Apple TV+ doesn’t have the flair that a Netflix or Disney+ may have they make up for it in amazing content. I highly recommend giving them a shot this holiday season!
