Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom Director James Wan Not A Fan Of Trailer Teasers

It seems Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan is not a fan of trailer teasers. Even for his own movie.

It seems Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan is not a fan of trailer teasers. This week saw the trailer teaser for his own movie released by WB. It’s not that unusual to tease a trailer for later on that week, we see it quite often. However, I for one and not a fan of this, and it seems neither is Wan.

Check out the comment made by Wan in a post captured by insider MTTSH following the release of that teaser.

Responding to a comment mocking the idea of this being a trailer for a trailer, Wan (creepypuppet) said,

“haha. I know, it’s hilarious”

Now, contrary to what MTTSH seems to be indicating, and what many fans discussed online, I don’t think this is James Wan being exhausted by DC and keen to get away. For example, people were commenting that Wan will disown the movie, was undermined by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and more. Listen folks, I think that’s a little too deep of a read. I think Wan is just saying he’s not a fan of trailers teases. Which, to be fair, is not that uncommon a standpoint to take. I think people also need to understand that it is not Wan’s job to market this movie. It Wan’s job to deliver a finished product his bosses will release, and to turn of for any press promo’s WB sends him to as per his contract.

We all know how long this movie has been developed for. It has gone under numerous reshoots and perhaps more test screenings than I’ve ever heard of for another movie. Rumors are, the movie was not that great and the reshoots were designed to make a more complete experience. However, that is all just rumors for now.

I do trust that some people who saw previous test screenings were not fans. Though those would have been earlier versions without complete VFX. One thing fans gushed about in the little teaser this week was how pretty all the shots looked. The first film I found most fans felt similarly, that it was very pretty to look at. Dive below the surface of Aquaman however, and that’s when the cracks begin to show. So far what I’m hearing is that The Lost Kingdom is going to be more of the same. Frankly, I can’t see why anyone would have higher expectations than that for the sequel?

Fact remains, no one is betting on Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom coming close to the box office of Aquaman. For a start there will be those who didn’t like the first movie and don’t wish to return for more. We also have to factor in the fact Aquaman is literally going nowhere. The DCEU Aquaman belongs to is dead and everyone knows it except Aquaman at this point. The Flash had Michael Keaton back as Batman and even that couldn’t make it profitable. It’s possible The Lost Kingdom will make more money than The Flash, but will it be profitable? I think fans are now just waiting for the new DCU to begin with Superman: Legacy. I guess we shall see how the full trailer goes later this week?

It seems Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan is not a fan of trailer teasers! What do you think of trailer teasers? What do you think of Wan’s comments and are you in any way excited to watch this movie? Thoughts below as always.
