Fans are just over a month and a half away now from Aquaman‘s solo debut film. The film, of course, stars Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) and is directed by James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring). This new version of the character first made his appearance in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, though it was a very brief scene. Aquaman was a big part of Justice League, being part of the team assembled by Ben Affleck’s Batman to combat Steppenwolf.
Wan, who is most well-known for his horror films, was an unusual choice to direct, but an interesting one as well. The director took to his Instagram account to celebrate that the film is finally finished, noting that this project has consumed two years of his life (though he still did have one hand firmly planted in the horror realm). Aquaman is not the easiest hero to bring to the screen, having bee the butt of many fish related jokes for decades, the newer and more badass version played by Momoa has done much to redeem the character’s persona. DC still doesn’t seem to have a clear path as to what they’re doing, but do have a couple interesting projects coming up, including the Joker origin film and Birds of Prey.
