Arkham Asylum Gets Showrunner And GCPD Still Separate Project

Arkhum Asylum gets a showrunner in The Staircase creator Antonio Campos. It also seems GCPD still a separate project being developed.

Arkham Asylum gets a showrunner in The Staircase creator Antonio Campos. Additionally, despite previous reports it seems GCPD is still a separate project and also being developed. As you likely already know Arkham Asylum is an upcoming spin-off show from Matt Reeves The Batman movie. However, we do know it began life as another spin-off show. Simply GCPD, the show was designed to follow the police of Gotham City. As this project was developed the idea for Arkham Asylum was born. Thus, most fans thought the new show had replaced the former.

Variety reports that Campos has been tapped as the showrunner for Arkham Asylum with the idea he will also direct a number of episodes himself. Also, the trade claims their sources have told them that despite Reeves initial ‘evolution’ comments, GCPD is still on the table as a separate show and is being developed. Here is what the trade reported exactly.

The Batman spinoff series about Arkham Asylum at HBO Max has brought on Antonio Campos as its new writer, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.

Sources also say that Campos will direct and serve as showrunner/executive producer on the series, should his version of the show ultimately go forward.

Although Matt Reeves had previously said that the originally planned Gotham PD series had “kind of evolved” into what is now the Arkham Asylum show, an individual with knowledge of the situation now says that the two are in fact completely separate and that the Gotham PD series remains in development.

It’s hard to have an opinion outside of whether you were a fan of The Staircase or not? I haven’t seen it, and thus won’t comment. As for the GCPD news, for now these are just names to me. I really enjoyed The Batman. Therefore I like the idea of building out that world for Batman to have his own little Universe going on. I would have taken that decision years ago if I were in charge of DC. Batman really doesn’t need the rest of the DCEU outside of his own Universe, for me.

However, all that being said, until we know more about either show, can’t really comment too much. So, Arkham Asylum gets a showrunner in The Staircase creator Antonio Campois. Plus we learn GCPD is still a separate project in development. What do you think of this news? As always, leave us any thoughts below.
