Admittingly, one of the best characters in the zombie-killing crew of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead was the safe-cracking expert played by Matthias Schweighofer. Now we’ll see him in the prequel of Army of Thieves on Netflix.

Not only he was a comedy relief in the slaughter of zombies, but he was also indeed a likable character that you wanted cheer to survive at the end of that Netflix movie.

The fans couldn’t get enough of Dieter and Zack Snyder & Co. already knew that. Thus a prequel was already in the works.

Obviously, Matthias Schweighofer is back as Dieter in the prequel. In this adventure, he’ll be joined by a cast including Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, and Jonathan Cohen. Schweighofer directed the movie from the screenplay by Shay Hatten and the story by Hatten and Snyder.

Here’s the official synopsis of Army of Thieves:

In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter (Matthias Schwighofer) gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.

Netflix offered us a first look teaser trailer into the new film with plenty of action and humor. Don’t worry. There are even references and a glimpse of zombies in this prequel before the zombie apocalypse.

No exact date yet for Army of Thieves, but Netflix expects it on the streaming platform in the fall of 2021.
