Arrow — The…Bad Of “Underneath”

After last week’s episode, will we learn more about Prometheus’ whereabouts?  Will viewers get a chance to see more of amazing footage from the sizzle reel, or will this be another episode focused on the support cast?  Will we actually get to see the Green Arrow? Read on to find out the good and the bad from this week’s episode.

The short answer to the questions above is…no. I’m warning you now that this will be the shortest Arrow article that I have written.  The picture above pretty much summarizes the entire episode…

Bad: The Episode

1. The Focus on Olicity — Many of us were hoping it was over.  We at least seemed to move forward from it until tonight.  The first 20 minutes of the episode dealt with either flashbacks regarding their relationship, or in the present where they seemed to teeter on that line between friends, or more.  It didn’t stop there.  Team Arrow came in for a bit, then it was back to Olicity, and a lot of tears from Felicity…The writers obviously didn’t pay attention to the fans on this one.  To quote from Michael Connally, “Anytime Olicity is the focus, the show gets worse.”  He is right.  This isn’t Green Arrow.  This isn’t a superhero show.  The past couple episodes have turned into a soap opera.  That’s not what many of us signed up for.

2. No Green Arrow — What is this, almost a month and a half without seeing the Green Arrow? We saw him in a Russian flashback almost two months ago.  My time frame may be a little off, but that is what it seems.  What is the purpose in having so many episodes without having the main character (and concept) of the show on it?  Arrow would have been better having 18 or so episodes this season, and focused on a strong, consistent story rather than having more episodes, and filling them with stories like the past two weeks which end up disrupting the consistency of the story line.

3. No Action — With this being more of a soap opera than an actual superhero show, it clearly lacked any type of action.  Oliver shot some arrows at the door, and some explosions happened, but that was about it.  Oh, and Felicity cried…

4. Team Arrow — This is a reoccurring theme in my articles.  The focus on Olicity and Team Arrow just doesn’t work.  Shift the focus back on the Green Arrow.

I really don’t have much else to elaborate on as I didn’t enjoy this episode at all.  Maybe I’m just bitter because the sizzle reel was so great, and we have yet to see anything from that said reel. The reel consisted of Black Siren, Malcom Merlyn, Slade Wilson / Deathstroke. and we have seen some set photos of Captain Boomerang and Lian Yu.  I’m hoping next week will be better, but I don’t see how it could be much more boring than tonight’s episode.

What did you think of tonight’s episode?  Do you agree with me, or did you think there were good parts to the episode that I overlooked?  Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!

Arrow returns next Wednesday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
